Sensory Overload marks Ninn Worx’ first foray into a consistent realm of European productions. Obviously the company has other titles shot in Europe but not only do the Moiré Candy features follow a very plot-driven format rather than the vignette or wall-to-wall versions of earlier Ninn Worx releases but also the group has committed to a nearly monthly release schedule for the company. Truth be told Michael personally got involved at great length to secure the contract with Moiré, stating simply, “I think these are great young filmmakers with a lot of drive, a lot of vision, and basically a lot of chops.”
Not complicated thematically, really, the story involves a man bored with his life who decides to try Sensory Deprivation as a means to inner peace. Oddly he ends up at a place for Sensory Overload – not the same thing. We spend some time running through some amazingly clever and heated scenes for “Sight” “Smell” “Hearing” “Taste” and then two for “Touch” … This is an adult movie, after all. That seems only reasonable. With broad production values and skillful representation of clever ideas, in-house we found ourselves surprisingly impressed with this first effort.
If Sensory Overload is representative of the bulk of the work Moiré Candy produces, we’re thinking Michael might be right.
